What is the Redistricting Study?

Anne Arundel County Public School’s Redistricting Study shows the process used to redraw current school boundaries. The study will define attendance zones for the new Old Mill West High School and West County Elementary School. We believe that with the new proposed boundaries would create further congestion of Mountain Road Traffic and the potential for increased traffic risks.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your school is within the Chesapeake, Glen Burnie, Meade, Northeast, North County and Old Mill high school clusters, it may have a proposed boundary change. Piney Orchard Elementary School in the Arundel cluster is also impacted. You can check to see if your address is in a redistricted area by clicking on the map icon on this webpage and entering your address. If your school does not fall within one of those clusters it is not impacted.

Currently, there is no set date for new boundaries to be implemented. Public hearings on the new boundaries, to take place after a community engagement process, are set to take place in March of 2023. Redistricting will be approved one year in advance of change, likely in 2024-2025 when Old Mill West High School is complete.

The redistricting study is focused on opening new schools and additions, school utilization, walking and driving distances to school, feeder patterns, and assignment stability.

His core focus is supporting policies that improve the quality of lives of Marylanders. He believes that the plans of redistricting would cause traffic congestion issues which may lead to an increased risk of traffic accidents for the people of Anne Arundel County.
